On Monday 22 October, the Sydney Symphony visited the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou for a day of outreach activities with the students.
The day was the first in a range of activities that will be undertaken between the Sydney Symphony and the Xinghai Conservatory following the signing of a MOU between the two organisations earlier this year.
The day started with Sydney Symphony musicians taking sectional rehearsals in their respective instruments, followed by a run-through with the Conservatory orchestra under the baton of Sydney Symphony Assistant Conductor Jessica Cottis.
And then, the culmination of the day – the orchestra rehearsing with Sydney Symphony Principal Conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy, who was met with cheers and whistles as he entered the Conservatory concert hall.
