Today saw the orchestra take a 2 hour drive out of Beijing to the city of Tianjin where the musicians gave the first performance of the tour, at the Tianjin Grand Theatre.
With a population roughly half that of Australia (10.5 million people), Tianjin was fitting place for the Sydney Symphony to officially begin it’s tour given the city’s historic and cultural significance as a birth place of culture and arts in the north of China.
Tianjin has a spectacular arts precint with astounding architecture.
The first performance of the tour featured the orchestra performing Dvorak’s Cello Concerto with Jian Wang as soloist and Shostakovich Symphony No.10.
