In 2009, the Sydney Symphony under Principal Conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy, made its first ever visit to China.
The orchestra performed at the Beijing Music Festival, the Oriental Arts Centre in Shanghai, and a gave a gala concert in Guangzhou as part of celebrations marking the 30-year anniversary of the sister-state relationship between New South Wales and the Chinese province of Guangdong.
